“A series of jaw-dropping projections by Daniel Brodie combine with Twist’s puppets to enhance Arias’ transformations into a Hindu goddess and a tentacled sea creature.”
“…Daniel Brodie’s new projections on a stage-wide scrim stand out. The mushroom-induced trip is particularly beautiful: Arias writhes on a black box against a black background, looking as if he’s floating in space, surrounded by gorgeous swirling graphics.”
“The combined effect of the puppets, the intricate handmade sets, and an amazing array of light projections creates an unreal, visually dazzling display. If you scoff at the phrase “stage magic,” check out the scene where Arias dances with two six-foot devils, eyes glowing red between hits of poppers; a billowing backdrop and projected flames against a sheer curtain transform this simple scene into a rollicking fever dance.”
“However, any semblance of a story is merely an excuse for Twist to create one spectacular design after another. He’s aided in this by projections from Daniel Brodie that seem even more effective at the Abrons than they were at HERE. Of particular note are the visuals accompanying Arias’ drug-induced headtrip.”
“Particularly wonderful is a drug trip, the intense beauty of which would not have been possible without Daniel Brodie’s projections of smoke, fire and mandalas (he also knocks it out of the park with a galaxy of stars).”
